Whineray takes reins at $26bn NZ Super Fund

Matt Whineray’s role as CEO of the New Zealand wealth fund has been made permanent.
The Board of the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation, the government body that invests the NZ$38bn ($26bn) NZ Super Fund, has formally appointed Matt Whineray as its CEO this week.
Whineray has been in the post as acting CEO since March this year, having previously held the role of the fund’s chief investment officer.
The board’s chair, Catherine Savage, said: “Mr Whineray was the stand-out candidate among a high-quality field of international applicants. He has been instrumental in the Guardians’ successes over the last decade and is recognised globally as a leader in institutional investment. The board has the utmost confidence in his leadership ability, intelligence and integrity.”
