Ponurov remains in detention

The former financial director of Rusnano is charged with embezzlement of public funds.

Svyatoslav Ponurov, the former financial director of Rusnano, a Russian government-backed company that invests in nanotechnology, will remain in detention, Rapsi News has reported.

The attorney of Ponurov, who has been charged with the embezzlement of 220m rubles ($3.2m) in public funds while he was with Rusnano, failed to convince the Moscow City Court that Ponurov would not attempt to flee or tamper with witnesses.

Leonid Melamed, the former chief of Rusnano, who stands accused alongside Ponurov, is currently under house arrest. Rusnano’s former manager Andrei Malyshev has also been charged.

The three allegedly moved funding allocated to Rusnano between 2007 and 2009 to Alemar, a company controlled by Melamed.

Ponurov has denied the charges.
