Mobile World Capital Barcelona, backed by the Spanish government and various regional governments, has created an accelerator and tech transfer initiative to help support and create startups.
The Spanish government-backed Mobile World Capital Barcelona initiative has launched MVenturesBcn, an accelerator and technology transfer program.
Mobile World Capital Barcelona was founded by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, the Catalan Government, Barcelona City Council and Fira de Barcelona, the city’s trade fair institution.
The public sector founders were joined by GSMA, an organisation that represents the interests of more than 800 mobile operators worldwide.
The accelerator side of MVenturesBcn will build alliances with international programs to support approximately 90 startups over the next three years.
Its tech transfer program will create spinouts based on algorithms, new devices and materials developed at universities and research centres. MVenturesBcn plans to commercialise 20 technologies over three years.
