Ben Mathias takes on the role of India head at Vertex Venture Management following Ajay Lakhotia's exit earlier this month.
Vertex Venture Management, the venture capital arm of Singapore government-backed investment firm Temasek, has appointed Ben Mathias as India head.
Mathias takes on the role from Ajay Lakhotia who left the post at the beginning of this month to start up his own investment organisation. Lakhotia agreed to continue working for Vertex as an advisor after he left the post until a replacement was appointed.
Before moving to Vertex, Mathias was a partner at US-based venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates where he launched their India presence and opened their Bangalore office.
Chua Kee Lock, group chief executive and president of Vertex Holdings, said: “We are excited to have Ben join us to head our India investments. Ben has had many years of management and Venture Capital investment experience and brings insights that are very valuable to startups.
“We look forward to unlocking a lot more potential in the Indian startup ecosystem under his leadership.”
Mathias said: “I am delighted to be a part of the Vertex team. We are aligned in our ambition to build great companies, not just in India but beyond India as well. While my key focus remains in India for now, I will be part of the Vertex team covering India, Southeast Asia and Taiwan.”
