Aaltonen moves from VTT Ventures to Kaust Innovation Fund

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (Kaust) Innovation Fund has appointed former VTT Ventures investment manager Erkki Aaltonen as its growth investor.

Erkki Aaltonen, who up until September 2015 was investment director at VTT Ventures, the investment arm of Finland government agency VTT, has taken up his new role of growth investor at the Kaust Innovation Fund.

Kaust Innovation Fund, formerly known as Seed Fund, was created by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia to invest in seed and early-stage technology-based startups.

VTT is the technical research centre of Finland. A total of 31% of VTT’s funding comes from the government of Finland with the remaining money provided by domestic and international sources.

Prior to his role at VTT, Aaltonen worked at then-smartphone manufacturer Nokia, working his way from customer survey analyst to business consultant through business development manager. Later he became senior manager for new business development at Nokia.
